About the Brand
Paper Boat, from Hector Beverages, brought India’s forgotten drinks back onto everyday shelves — Aam Panna, Jaljeera, Aam Ras, and a whole shelf of others that most people last tasted at a grandparent’s house. No shortcuts on the recipes, no artificial sweetness pretending to be tradition. The brand runs on one feeling above all else: nostalgia.
That’s an easy thing to promise and a hard thing to design for. A product page can show a bottle sitting pretty against a white background. It can’t show a summer afternoon, a rainy-day craving, or the particular ache of a taste you haven’t had in years. Our brief was to build a site that carries that feeling through every scroll — without making people wait for it to load.
Project Snapshot
Brand: Paper Boat
Parent company: Hector Beverages
Category: Traditional Indian beverages
Our role: Website design & development
Core stack: React.js
Focus: Mobile-first, story-led, performance-optimised
Team: A dedicated team of 3-4 members (designers and React developers)
The Challenge
Lifestyle brands live and die by feeling — rich visuals, warmth, story. But feeling-heavy websites tend to get heavy in file size too, and a large share of Paper Boat’s audience browses on a phone, often on patchy mobile data. We had to design for both sides of that trade-off at once, without letting either one lose.
- Reflect a nostalgic, story-first identity without tipping into looking dated or overly sentimental
- Keep the site fast and light despite a visual, image-driven brand
- Present a growing range of drinks in a way that stays easy to browse, not cluttered
- Make the UI feel premium and considered, while staying warm and approachable
- Get the responsive experience right first, since most visitors were arriving on mobile
Our Approach
Before opening a design tool, we spent time sitting with the brand itself — the “no added sugar” honesty, the hand-illustrated packaging, the storytelling-led tone of voice. That understanding shaped every decision that followed, from the colour palette to how each product section was structured.
We built the frontend on React.js, which gave us smooth page transitions, quick load times, and a component-based structure — meaning new drinks and seasonal campaigns can be added later without rebuilding the site from scratch each time.
Key Features Delivered
1. Nostalgic Visual Storytelling
Warm imagery, considered colour, and subtle motion that echo the brand’s own line — “Drinks and Memories.” Every section tells a story instead of simply listing a product.
2. Fully Responsive Design
Built mobile-first and tested across phone, tablet, and desktop, since most of Paper Boat’s traffic comes in through a phone screen.
3. Smooth, App-Like Navigation
React.js powers quick, seamless transitions between the brand story and the product ranges — no jarring full-page reloads breaking the mood.
4. Clean, Intuitive UI/UX
A simple visual hierarchy guides visitors from brand story to product discovery, without ever overwhelming them with clutter.
5. Performance-First Build
Optimised images, lazy loading, and clean component code keep the site light — because a slow-loading page quietly undoes the exact feeling a lifestyle brand is trying to create.
6. Scalable Product Showcase
A reusable product-card system means Paper Boat’s growing drink range — new flavours, seasonal editions, festive packs — can be added without redesigning the layout each time.
Technology Stack

Conclusion
The Paper Boat project was a reminder that good web design isn’t just about layouts and colours — it’s about capturing a feeling and making it load in under three seconds. By combining thoughtful UI/UX with the performance benefits of React.js, we helped bring Paper Boat’s nostalgic, story-driven identity to life online — a website that doesn’t just showcase a product, but tells a story visitors actually connect with.
